Late in the season wildflowers can be found deep in Upper Bidwell Park along the Yahi Trail, usually near the creek. Lilies, and Sweat Peas are the most prevalent flowers. My favorite wildflower for this time of season is the Humboldt lily, a vibrant orange ‘hanging’ flower found along the Yahi trail near Brown’s Hole swimming area.
Hiking this upper section of the Yahi trail towards Brown’s Hole reveals a few small meadows that can be quite vibrant with wildflowers. To start the hike, you drop into the Yahi trail from Parking Area Q from along the Main Park Road. The trail is a bit hidden and is to the left of the bench seating visible from the road. The trail begins with quite a decent but levels out, rather quickly. The bright pink Butte County checkerbloom can be spotted in these upper meadows, and I was able to capture a few images in this gallery. Some of the many twists and turns of the trail have wildflowers in bloom, so it wise to always keep looking around you as you hike.
