The wildflowers of Bidwell Park offer all of us, locals and visitors, an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature in Chico’s back yard. Many wildflower hikes start as an excursion with hopeful but unknown results. The results usually being fun walks and can be a bit exciting as we all chase a chance to walk up to beauty in bloom on any trail, across the park! Blooms start early each year, vary widely based on winter and late season rainfall and the final bloom isn’t until in June.

Just A Lil Bit About the Photographer
All website images are from the eye of Chico native, Billy Curtis Pope Jr. He ‘goes by’ Curt, or Salsa, if you’ve gamed with him! (He makes a hand-chopped salsa from the Park Cafe recipe! IFKYK. Yum!) Curt likes to step a bit closer to the subject with his photography projects. And this true for many images shared on this site capturing the beauty around us in Upper Bidwell Park.
A Message from Curt

Hey all! Yes, I hope you enjoy these images I have captured in Upper Bidwell Park. While there are amazing wildflowers in many spaces and places across our county, project is a long term focus on our local park.
With my images, I goal to capture something more than just a moment in time. I often focus on single elements in busy hoping to capture your eye. By using a short depth of field, I work to create a piece of art with each image or at least inspire one!
Upcoming on the website blog page are posts detailing all of the main park trails with wildflower images to showcase the proximity to trails. I hope to show how accessible these beautiful flowers are as I offer hints of where and when to locate these beauties! Also included will be the every-so-occasional seasonal waterfall in Upper Bidwell Park. Oh, and I love sunsets, so they may show up, too!
